469-826-3610Common signs are a water bill that jumps for no clear reason, the sound of running water when everything is off, a warm or damp spot on the floor, or a water meter that keeps moving with every fixture shut off. Any of these is worth having checked before the damage spreads.
A clog that keeps coming back usually means the blockage is farther down the line than the fixture. Tree roots, grease buildup, a sagging section of pipe or a damaged sewer line are common causes. A sewer camera inspection shows what is inside the line so the repair fits the actual problem.
It depends on what failed and how old the unit is. Problems with controls, heating elements, igniters or valves can often be repaired. A tank that is leaking from the tank itself cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced. We inspect the water heater and explain which option makes sense before any work begins.
A failed test means the assembly is not fully stopping water from flowing backward. Many failures come from worn internal parts and can be repaired. An assembly that is too worn or damaged is replaced. Either way it is tested again afterward, and you receive the documentation showing the result.
Leave the building right away, and do not use light switches, appliances or anything else that could make a spark. Once you are outside, call your gas utility's emergency line or 911. After the utility has made the area safe, a licensed plumber can find the leak, repair the gas piping and pressure test it.
Many North Texas homes have a shutoff in or beside the water meter box near the street, and some also have one where the water line enters the house, often in the garage, a utility closet or near the water heater. Find yours before you need it, so a burst pipe or major leak can be stopped quickly.
Disconnect garden hoses and cover outdoor faucets. Insulate exposed pipes in the attic, garage or crawl space, and open the cabinet doors under sinks on outside walls. During a hard freeze, let faucets drip. Know where your main water shutoff is in case a pipe breaks.
Over time, yes. Hard water leaves mineral scale inside water heaters, fixtures and appliances, which lowers their efficiency and shortens their life. Many North Texas water supplies are moderately hard to hard. A whole-home water treatment system can reduce the buildup.
